A thousand years ago, men gathered under the open sky at `Tinget´ in Viborg. Here, laws were passed and judgements delivered. Disputes were settled, fates decided, and the rule of law upheld.

This tradition of justice has endured. Since 1919, the Western High Court has been based in Viborg, continuing the city’s special role in Danish legal history.

From the open-air assemblies of the Middle Ages to today’s modern courtrooms, Viborg has for more than 1.000 years been a place where law and justice have taken shape – and where power has been exercised through law and verdicts.
